How Sparta called the NWE jet rebound early

In mid-February, European jet spreads were still soft after a sharp selloff.

Many saw stabilisation.

Sparta saw tightening supply.

On 13 February, we flagged the turn.

One week later, NWE jet spreads had surged.

This is what we saw, when we saw it, and how Sparta users were positioned before the rebound.

Setting the stage: 13 February

NWE Jet CIF differential: $57.50/mt
NWE Jet CIF spread: $11.50/mt
NWE Jet CIF crack: $25.00/bbl

European pricing looked weak.

Underneath, Asian supply was shutting.

What Sparta saw

1. Singapore regrade back at seasonal extremes

Sparta flagged March Singapore regrade returning to its historical seasonal highs.

Driven by:

Falling Japanese kerosene stocks
Record Indian jet demand

Asian jet was tightening fast.

2. Asian arbitrages into Europe were shut

Sparta’s Pricing Centre (Jet) showed all major Asian-origin LR2 jet arbitrages into Europe closed, apart from Red Sea loaders.

No incremental barrels were economically viable West.

When arbitrages shut, flows slow.

When flows slow, structure tightens.

3. Commentary called the reversal

On 13 February, Sparta wrote:

“The strength has been sufficient to close all Asian-origin LR2 jet arbs into Europe… With supply routes tightening again, the recent weakness in European jet pricing looks poised to reverse in the short to medium term.”

The message was clear.

Supply tightening.
Downside exhausted.
Upside risk building.

Signal. Not hindsight.

By 20 February:

Spread: $11.50 → $20.50/mt
Differential: $57.50 → $67.50/mt

European jet repriced sharply higher.

The result

Call made: 13 Feb at $11.50/mt
By 20 Feb, spreads hit $20.50/mt

When the barrels stop flowing, prices move.
