Western pressure to hit Asian buying of Russian oil from December, sources say

June Goh, a senior oil market analyst at Sparta Commodities, said the UK sanctions are unlikely to significantly impact Yulong, but the refiner will find it hard to maintain operations if the EU and the U.S. follow suit.
“However, since China is now exempting China-made vessels from the ruling, there is a bit of reprieve there,” she added.

Reuters, Oct 17, 2025 –The U.S. and Europe are pressuring Asian nations to curb Russian energy imports, potentially reducing India’s oil purchases from December and shifting cheaper supplies to China, while Japan continues importing Russian LNG due to long-term contracts and energy security concerns.
