In a recent analysis for Reuters, Sparta’s Senior Oil Analyst, June Goh, highlights how China’s export suspension deepens an already tight fuel market, with diesel, jet, and gasoline cracks set to find support as the country withdraws barrels. China’s priority has always been domestic energy security — even amid visible increased crude buying, this does not necessarily translate to increased product exports. On the crude side, Goh notes that China may still be securing cargoes from Saudi Aramco via private tenders, meaning it may not need to bid up the rest of the market to secure oil. Traders should monitor middle-distillates supply dynamics and watch whether China’s domestic inventory rebuilds post-Golden Week, as this will determine whether the suspension proves temporary or prolonged.
