In a recent analysis for Al Jazeera, Sparta’s Senior Oil Analyst, June Goh, said oil is likely to hold above $100 a barrel for as long as the war on Iran drags on. Brent crude jumped more than 3% after Yemen’s Houthis claimed missile and drone strikes on Aramco facilities in Yanbu and a target in Riyadh, briefly topping $108 a barrel before settling near $106.50. Goh points to a widening gap in global oil inventories with no clear resolution in sight, even as Washington and Tehran resume diplomatic efforts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Traders should watch whether the US-Iran talks produce any concrete de-escalation, since that’s the main variable standing between current elevated pricing and a sharper move lower.
