China accelerates oil reserve site build amid stockpiling drive

“China’s stockbuilding strategy has always been to have sufficient energy security for the nation that is highly dependent on crude imports,” said June Goh, Singapore-based analyst at Sparta Commodities.

Reuters, Oct 7, 2025 – China is rapidly boosting oil reserves, adding 169 million barrels in 2025-26 to absorb surplus supply and support sub-$70 prices, with total stockpiles now around 735–799 million barrels and a target of six months of imports.
