China teapots make rare murban oil purchases for quick delivery

“Straight-run fuel oil is simply not an economic feedstock currently,” said June Goh, a Senior Oil analyst at Sparta.

Bloomberg, May 9, 2025 – Two Chinese teapot refiners bought 1 million barrels each of Abu Dhabi’s Murban crude for June delivery, a rare move driven by costly fuel oil and Middle Eastern supply overhang. June Goh from Sparta Commodities said high fuel oil prices and strong margins prompted refiners to purchase crude to boost run rates for summer demand.
