Can Europe block Russian diesel without fueling a supply crunch?

Published01 AUG 25 - 11:27 Reading time  minutes

Oilprice.com, August 1, 2025 – Neil Crosby, AVP Oil Analytics, writes in Oilprice.com that proposed EU sanctions on diesel refined from Russian crude abroad could be difficult to enforce and risk disrupting trade flows, raising freight costs, and triggering shortages as Europe’s refining capacity declines. Stricter rules may reroute diesel to other markets while pushing Europe to source more from the US or Asia, but without forensic enforcement, Russian-linked barrels are likely to keep entering via complex trade routes.
