Can Europe block Russian diesel without fueling a supply crunch?

Published15 AUG 25 - 08:48 Reading time  minutes

Petroleum Economist, August 15, 2025 – Neil Crosby, AVP Oil Analytics, writes in Petroleum Economist that India is pulling back from buying Russian crude—once about two-thirds of Moscow’s seaborne exports—under pressure from U.S. secondary sanctions, raising the risk of major disruptions to global oil trade flows. If sustained, the shift could funnel more barrels toward China, tighten Middle Eastern sour crude markets, lift freight rates, and widen regional spreads, while leaving Russia dangerously dependent on a single buyer.
