Asia steps up US WTI oil imports as Middle East prices rise, sources say

WTI’s arbitrage has been wide open to Asia for the past week for cargoes arriving in early November, said June Goh, a senior analyst at Sparta.

Reuters, August 1, 2025 – Asian refiners are stepping up U.S. WTI crude imports for Q4 as Middle East grades like Murban get pricier. June Goh of Sparta Commodities said the WTI arb opened in late July, with U.S. cargoes now undercutting Murban by up to 75 cents. Falling freight rates and tighter Murban supply have boosted WTI’s appeal, with Japan’s Taiyo Oil among the recent buyers.
